Magnar placed a large stone down to replace the tree stump heâd torn from the ground. At some point, heâd work on bringing more dirt to the area surrounding their home so he could fill it properly.
Now that the hole was sufficiently filled, he picked up his axe from the ground and began chopping into the side of a tree. He was clearing more of the yard so he could continue building the rooms.
He didnât need to take a break, but he did simply to stare in the direction of the house.
Yellow faded into his vision as he took in the finished porch roof.
Orpheus had joined him early this day, and together they had worked a two-man saw to cut the logs for it in half by their length. Considering their strength was superior to that of a humanâs and theyâd started this task the day before, theyâd managed to finish building late midday.
Orpheus was currently making the railing.
Magnar had considered cutting down the large tree that was right next to the porch since its leaves scraped against the roof, but he decided he wanted to keep it there. It was becoming barren due to Autumn, and he liked the way it dusted colourful leaves over the roof and the grass below it.
Since the forest floor of the Veil was often shaded, the grass was patchy, but the more trees he removed, the more grass sprouted. Orpheus informed him heâd eventually require a scythe to maintain it as it often grew to be so tall that it could hide their humans in its stalks.
The idea of trying to play a game of finding her in it sounds enjoyable, though.
His gaze drifted to the side of the house, knowing that Reia and Delora were behind it in the garden doing something... strange.
Theyâd asked both Orpheus and Magnar to remove the curve of the logs there yesterday so it was flatter, and they had added clay themselves between the grooves where the logs pressed together. It wasnât perfect, still quite bumpy in texture, but theyâd seemed pleased.
The clay had dried overnight, and they had been back there for most of the morning.
They like each other. Reia and Delora were forming a bond.
Magnar was relieved because he thought it would bring them both comfort, but it also annoyed him because it meant Deloraâs attention wasnât on him.
The darker green of jealousy grew in his orbs.
She used to watch me work from the steps.
Heâd liked showing off his strength and skills while he worked. Especially when heâd lift an entire heavy and long tree by himself after he removed its branches to place it with the others neatly.
Magnar resumed his task, and Orpheus eventually came over while he was removing the cut treeâs branches. Heâd finished the railing for the porch, and Magnar was pleased to see the outside of the house was complete.
âWhat do you think you will make first?â Orpheus asked, nodding the tip of his snout in the direction of the tree stumps he had in a pile.
